Shell Stitch Blanket

This is such a fun and easy pattern. It works up quite fast, which I love, because sometimes I just want to crochet and don’t have to think so I can enjoy my favourite shows on Netflix. I hope you will enjoy it as well!

This is what you’ll need

  • Stylecraft Special DK yarn, color Sage
  • Crochet hook 5,5mm and 6mm

Stitch abbreviations

  • ch (chain stitch/stitches)
  • st (stitch/stitches)
  • sl st (slip stitch)
  • sc (single crochet)
  • tsc (twisted single crochet)
  • dc (double crochet)

Note: The 6mm hook is for the last row of the border. I also used it for the foundation chain. I always use a slightly bigger hook, because that will make the first and last row the same width

Start with a foundation ch; a multiple of 6+21: 1sc in second ch from hook and 1sc in each ch till end of row. ch1 and turn

2: 1sc in the first st, skip 2 st, 1dc in the next st

ch1, 1dc in same st, ch1, 1dc in same st

skip 2 st, 1sc in the next st (the first shell is made)
* skip 2st, in next st; -1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc-, skip 2st, 1sc in next st * repeat to end, ch4 and turn

3: 1dc in the first st, skip 2st, 1sc in the next st (on top of shell of previous row)

*  skip 2st, shell st in the next st, skip 2st, 1sc in the next st * repeat until last 3st, skip 2 st and -1dc, ch1, 1dc- in the last st. ch1 and turn

Keep repeating these 2 rows until you have reached the desired length:

  • 1sc in the first st, * skip 2st, shell st in the next st (1dc, ch1, 1dc, ch1, 1dc), skip 2 st, 1sc in the next st * repeat to end, ch4 and turn
  • 1dc in the first st, skip 2st, 1sc in the next st, * skip 2 st, shell st in the next st, skip 2st, 1sc in the next st * repeat until last 3st, skip 2st, –1dc, ch1, 1dc– in the last st. ch1 and turn

Last step is the border:

1 – 4: sc around the blanket (sc three times in each corner st), sl st to close the row, ch1 and turn (do not ch1 and turn at the 4th row)

5: This is the last row. This row will be done with double threat. Tie a second threat to the first one, leaving a long tail to crochet over to make sure it stays put

Start using crochet hook 6mm; This last row will be done with tsc (twisted singel crochet)

ch1 using both threats, insert hook in the next st, draw up a loop, turn your hook with both loops counterclockwise and finish with; yo and pull through both loops

tsc around the blanket (2tsc in every corner st). Make sure to crochet loosely, this will make it easier to do this st

I think I’ve missed it on here–how much yarn did you use on this project? I’d like to try this for a big throw.
