Suzy Strawberry

While my son started talking and learning new words, he found the word strawberry very intriguing. For weeks he said ‘strawberry’ about 100 times a day. That’s where my inspiration came from. I thought he needed a little strawberry friend.

Meet Suzy Strawberry! Isn’t she sweet?

Sew the seeds. I started on the inside at the bottom and I spiraled up the rows to evenly spread the seeds. I also sewed a bit loose, because Suzy will stretch when filled.8- Seeds

Do not fasten off when you have reached to top, but go on with crocheting the next rows.9- Seeds

Finish up the sewing the seeds and fill the rest of Suzy.
37: * sc2tog * repeat till end. (14)
sl st in next st, fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Sew the top shut by inserting the yarn needle through every back loop and pulling tight. I couldn’t close the top entirely, but that’s okay, because Suzy will have a hat on. Stuff the remaining yarn inside Suzy.10- Sew top shut

Step 1: Stem
1: Magic ring, 5sc in the ring (5)
2: 2sc in each st (10)
3 – 16: 1sc in each st (10)
End with sl st, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.11- Stem

Step 2: Middle
Make two of these
1: Magic ring, 6sc in the ring (6)

8: * 2sc in the next st, 1sc in next 6st * repeat till end (48)
9: * 2sc in the next st, 1sc in next 7st * repeat till end (54)
10: * 2sc in the next st, 1sc in next 8st * repeat till end (60)
End with sl st and fasten off. Leave a long tail on one of them for sewing.12- Middle

9 – 20: 1sc in each st (12)13- Leaves

Suzy’s hat

1: Stuff the stem lightly and sew on top of the first middle part.

2: Sew the second middle part on the bottom, using only the inner loops. We’ll be using the outer loops for sewing on the leaves.

3: Sew on the leaves (do not stuff them). Every leaf has 12st, sew the first 6 through the loops of the top half and the other 6 through the loops of the bottom half. 14- Hat

Sew on Suzy’s hat. Do not sew through the leaves, but just the middle part.

Step 4: Eyes
1: With black; Magic ring, 6sc in the ring, close with sl st (6)
2: ch1, 2sc in each st, close with sl st (12)
3: Start the row by crocheting over the green yarn, because you’re going to switch colors in this row: ch1, 2sc in the next st st, 1sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st; ending the sc with a green loop (like this:, insert hook, draw up a black loop, yarn over with green and pull through). Go on with green and crochet over the black yarn: 1sc in the next st, 2hdc in the next st, * 1hdc in the next, 2hdc in next st * repeat 3 times, 1sc in next st, close with black sl st. Fasten off both the green and the black yarn (18)
4: With cream; Attach yarn with a sc through the first green loops of last row, 1sc in the same st, 2sc in the next 3st, 1sc in the next st, 1hdc in the same st, 1hdc in the next st, 1dc in the same st, 1dc in the next st, 1hdc in the same st, 1hdc in the next st, 1sc in same st, 2sc in the next 5st, 1sc in the next st, 1hdc in the same st, 1hdc in the next st, 1dc in the same st, 1dc in the next st, 1hdc in the same st, 1hdc in the next st, 1sc in the same st, 2sc in last st, close with sl st (36)Eye1,2,3,4
5 Left eye: With black; attach yarn with a sl st through the loops of the last hdc of last row. 1sc in the next 14st. End with sl st, fasten off and weave in ends (16)
5 Right eye: With black; attach yarn with sl st through the loops of the first dc of last row. 1sc in the next 14 st. End with sl st, fasten off and weave in ends (16)Eye5

Attach the eyes by sewing the bottom with white yarn and the top with black yarn and add a few lashes.Eye6

Sew on a mouth for the final step. This is how I did it:
1: First I marked to spot of where I want to mouth to be. As you can see, I used yarn needles.

2: Then I sewed on the form with double threat, leaving a long tail on one side and half of that length on the other side.

3: The long tail I used the wind around the mouth to create volume, I then tied the tails together on the other side and made them disappear with a yarn needle inside Suzy.Mouth 1,2,3
