Simple Shrug

This is what you’ll need:

  • DK, light worsted yarn
  • Crochet hook 5mm and 6mm
  • Yarn needle

Stitch abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch/stitches
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet

Note: Use your 6mm hook for every foundation ch

Create a piece with all dc in the preferred size. The width should be a bit bigger than the length. This is what I did to reach a piece of 95cm x 85cm / 37,5inch x 33,5inch:

Ch125+3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch throughout. Ch3 and turn.

1dc in the next 125st. ch3 and turn. I repeated this 72 times.

Sleeves:

ch28, 1dc in 4th ch form hook, 1dc in each ch throughout. Ch3 and turn.

1dc in each st to end. Ch3 and turn. I repeated this 18 times.

Next step:

Fold shrug in half and sew the sides leaving an opening for the sleeves.

Fold sleeves in half, sew the ends together and attach to shrug.

Flip shrug inside out.

Collar: The collar is worked in rounds, so do not close the rows.

1: Attach yarn with a sc on 1 of the left seam of the shrug

sc all around

2: 1sc in the next 2st, hdc around the top half of the shrug and finish at the same spot on the other side, sc around the bottom half

3 – 4: Start and end both rows with 2 less hdc on both sides (sc instead  of hdc). Every hdc is worked in the third loop (camel stitch) and sc around the bottom half of the shrug

5: Only crochet the top half of the shrug with hdc in the third loop and again start and end with 2 less hdc on both sides

Love this! What size is it? I’d love to make one for a Christmas but am not sure how to determine sizing.

Hey Jenn, I measured myself from elbow to elbow and from neck to right under my butt.
      I hope this helps!

Can this be converted into plus size?

Hey! Yes defintely. What I did is, I measured myself from elbow to elbow and from neck to (just under) butt. You could do that and add a few inches, depending on your size.
      I hope this helps!
